It all adds up! Why Carol earned much more than Richard
WHILE it’s mostly women who fall foul of the gender pay gap, television presenter Carol Vorderman reveals that she was its rare beneficiary over the 23 years she presented Countdown with Richard Whiteley. The only time the pair fell out she says, was when Richard found out that she was being paid three times his salary. Given that Carol was the maths whizz on the hit show while Richard was spared the heavy lifting, it’s only fair that she was paid more handsomely. It also shows that yawning pay gaps are not always shaped by gender discrimination but by factors such as expertise and experience.
