Sick of praise for Mary Lou

I’M RE­ALLY sick of read­ing and hear­ing about what a won­der­ful breath of fresh air Mary Lou McDon­ald is.

I re­ally don’t see it. She has the grat­ing, pa­tro­n­is­ing voice of a school­teacher, and is al­ways wearily ex­plain­ing why ev­ery­one who dis­agrees with her in any way is ut­terly wrong.

Her oc­ca­sional at­tempts to sound re­spect­ful of other views al­ways fail. It was strik­ing, for in­stance, on the Claire Byrne Show af­ter the ref­er­en­dum

She’s only new and dif­fer­ent in the sense that she’s a woman and wasn’t in the IRA. But she holds to all the same un­apolo­getic mil­i­tant repub­li­can views that Gerry Adams holds. No thanks.
