oUR largest organ is a fantastic waterproof shield. But while we produce melanin to block the sun’s Uv rays, we do it too slowly to prevent damage. Darker, melanin-rich skin inhibits the production of vitamin D, which promotes bone growth. Instead we need the skin of an amphibian to release melanin quickly to block Uv or let light in for fast vitamin D production.
