even with 21st Cen­tury medicine, child­birth can be dif­fi­cult for hu­mans. But if like kan­ga­roos we gave birth to jel­lly­bean-sized ba­bies which then de­vel­oped in a spe­cial pouch out­side the body, we’d have pain-free births, though we could be car­ry­ing our off­spring for years. With mam­mary glands re­lo­cated in­side the pouch, we’d have no need for breasts ei­ther.
