PERU

-

Ranking 11. Last time DNQ. Manager Ricardo Gareca — the Argentine secured himself a special place in Peruvian hearts by leading them to a first World Cup since 1982. That atoned for the fact he scored the goal for Argentina that stopped Peru reaching the 1986 finals. Has certainly been around the block in a managerial career that has taken in most of the continent. They’re a bit like River Plate — not many teams pull off that red sash kit! Key man Paolo Guerrero (left) — Peru’s FA managed to get his 14-month suspension for testing positive for cocaine temporarily lifted so he can play at the World Cup and that has been a major boost. The Flamengo striker has scored 34 goals for his country. Rising star Renato Tapia — 22-year-old defensive midfielder is arguably the most important figure in the Peruvian team going forward. Has been at Feyenoord for two seasons but is in and out of the side. Prospects Could well grab a win against Australia, but that will likely not be enough to get into the knockout stages.
