Clinical Cork return to summit with Sligo win

- – FRANK KENT

CORK CITY refuse to blink in what is turning out to be a deadly duel for the Premier Division title with Dundalk.

The top two sides in the country are matching each other stride for stride and have now both won their last six games in a row.

And goals either side of half-time from Kieran Sadlier and Graham Cummins secured this wellearned win for the champions over Sligo Rovers at The Showgrounds.

It came less than 24 hours after Dundalk displaced them at the top of the table with a 4-0 victory at home to Limerick.

Attention turned to the north west last night and John Caulfield’s charges were in no mood to let the Lilywhites get comfortable on their perch.

Sadlier struck a clinical opener after just 51 seconds in a sign that they meant business and Cummins made sure of the result with a tidy header with 10 on the clock.

Cork are now one clear of Dundalk as this two-horse race for supremity goes on with the rest straggling several hurdles back.
