Ulster brawl set to be investigated

- – ALAN MORRISSEY

A MASS brawl during a stunning Ulster Under 20 semi-final, which resulted in four red cards, is set to be examined by the county’s competitions control committee.

Armagh came out on top against Tyrone 2-22 to 0-24 at the Athletic Grounds on Friday night and needed two sets of extra-time to get the job done.

However, the disgraceful scenes involving outfield players and even some who rushed from the bench were captured by those in attendance and shared on social media.

The Ulster council are now awaiting the referee’s report on the incident and that is sure to result in action from the Ulster CCC.

More on the matter should become clear tomorrow.

Tyrone looked to be beaten as the game entered its final stage but a last-gasp equaliser from Paul Doherty gave them a reprieve.

However, Armagh regrouped after this setback and took control once play was able to resume following the violent scenes.

Points from Conor O’Neill and Kevin McAlinden secured their passage into the Ulster final.
