Vogue: I won’t be bullied by breastfeeding zealots

TV personality sends out a message to the zealous mothers who insist breast is best

NEWLY MARRIED mother-to-be Vogue Williams has said she wants to breastfeed – but will not be bullied into it by breast is best zealots known as ‘Nipple Nazis’.

Speaking exclusively to the Irish Mail on Sunday, the model, fitness enthusiast and TV personality, says she’ll also try hypnosis to beat the pain when she goes into labour later this summer and ‘definitely’ wants more than one child.

‘I’m going to try breastfeeding but again I don’t think it works for everybody. If it works for me then I’ll do it for three or four months if I can – but if it doesn’t work then I’m not putting pressure on myself. I don’t think any new mum needs to put pressure on herself. I’ll not be going on Mumsnet. I wasn’t breastfed and I turned out all right! I will give it a go in general.’

Vogue, who just last weekend married Spencer Matthews in a quiet ceremony in Scotland said she isn’t nervous about the birth – because it’s going to happen.

‘No, because it’s something I have to do – it’s like when I had my knee operation. I know it’s gonna be way worse but I didn’t want to do that because I’d never had an operation but I had to do it, and this. I’m just not going to think about the birth. It has to be done.’

Due to give birth to the couple’s first son in August, she said that after a bout of morning sickness (revealed for the first time by the MoS) she is doing much better.

‘Quite good. Once 15 weeks passed I was back to normal. I had a lot of morning sickness and now I’m a bit boring and love going to bed at 8.30. Spencer is fine with it. I’m working and super busy but I’ll slow down mid-July.’

And when it does, she thinks new hubby Spencer will be present at the ‘upper end‘ of the birth.

‘Oh, I think the upper end is advisable for any partner. I don’t even want to see what happens down there,’ she laughed.

She also said that while she is planning a natural birth she may opt for last-minute drugs: ‘I’m going to try my best to do it [naturally] . I’m going to try hypnobirthing and if that doesn’t work I’m going to get an epidural. I’m going to do whatever works.’

Asked how Spencer is about the whole thing, she added: ‘He is great. He’s very excited. Even when I have my whingy days he’s still good. He’s the positive one.

‘It’s hard, the bump. He’s kicking like mad today. He’s taking after Spenny. No, it’s food, if I’m ever hungry, or have just eaten, he’s kicking.’ Despite her own unusual moniker she said her first child will have a more normal name.

‘We have names. My dad’s name will be incorporated for sure as will Spencer’s brothers. So that’s part of the name. It’s not as mad as you think it might be with my name being Vogue! We have three names we both love, so if we ever have three sons we’re sorted.’

Vogue has been documenting her pregnancy journey on her social media platform but has come in for criticism for her exercise and fitness regime. However, she swats off any unwanted online advice and says she is following doctors orders.

‘I’ve had a lot of criticism. But I think you get criticism for everything you do when pregnant. I could take a picture of a piece of sushi and people will give out to me but my doc has okayed sushi for me so I’m going to eat that and also it’s each to their own.

‘And my baby is in the 90th percentile for size, so he’s big. I love exercise. It’s given me something to do it’s making me feel better I have more energy, I don’t feel overly sluggish. I’m starting to feel a bit heavier but that’s normal.’

She is enjoying being pregnant and says she will ‘definitely’ have more children… but not too soon after the birth.

‘We will have a little break. I’ll need to have a drink and some chill-time.’

‘I wasn’t breastfed and I turned out all right!’
