WHAT’S IN A NAME... WHICH TOP TELLY WILL BEAT THEM ALL?
The not-so-catchy LG OLED55B7V beats them all. It may not sound that sexy but Which?’s best buy for under €600 is Samsung’s 50-inch UE50MU6120, which rates a 71% score from the magazine.
‘If you’re looking for best buy quality that won’t break the bank, this TV is the one to go for,’ it says. It’s available from €549 from Harvey Norman or Argos.
The catchily titled LG 49UJ634V scores 67% with Which? ‘This 49-inch 4K TV from LG just misses out on a Best Buy, but there’s a lot to like,’ it says.
‘The HD picture is good as is the sound. It’s the 4K quality that lets it down, but it’s a bargain,’ says Which?
If money is no object, the LG OLED55B7V, pictured left, has reviewers raving. And Which? gives the best rating of all to the LG 55-inch model.
‘LG topped a great year in TVs with this excellent OLED, which became the highest rated TV we’ve tested,’ Which? enthuses. ‘Excellent picture and sound, and a great smart-TV interface make this our top pick from 2017.’
However, it doesn’t come cheap. Curry’s, for example, charges €1,599.
The rest of Which?’s top five are also pricey. They are: the LG OLED55C8PLA , LG 65SK8500PLA, Samsung QE55Q7F and Sony’s KD55A1BU.
Which? also names and shames three TVs to avoid. Despite its cheap price of under €500 and a 43-inch screen, the LG 43LJ515V scored a mere 45%. Which? says it ‘was a massive disappointment… and completely flunked our motion-handling tests’.
Panasonic’s TX-24ES500B costs under €300 (it’s half the size of LG’s dud model) and Which? says: ‘Very low scores for both sound and picture mean that this isn’t even a borderline case – the Panasonic TX-24ES500B is, without doubt, a Don’t Buy to steer well clear of.’
