Ireland

ROB KEARNEY 7 Shipped a heavy blow from Marika Koroibete early on and missed tackle for first Australia try, but recovered well and defensive effort was huge. ANDREW CONWAY 7 Was visibly keen to make the most of this opportunity, and did well to dive over for Ireland’s first try before injury cut his evening short. GARRY RINGROSE 8 In ahead of Bundee Aki to provide more attacking threat and did just that, posing a real threat when in possession and solid defensively. ROBBIE HENSHAW 7 Another assured performance in midfield. A real threat going forward and defensive work was strong, even during a frantic second half as game opened up. KEITH EARLS 8 Keeps delivering during a long season where his form has rarely dipped. Unlucky not to get second half try when he let ball slip under huge pressure on Wallaby try-line. JOHNNY SEXTON 9 Provided the experience and leadership that was missing last week. Ireland are a far superior team when he’s on the pitch. CONOR MURRAY 7 Pulled the strings effectively and benefited from having Sexton back alongside him. Excellent pass allowed Conway in for opening try. CIAN HEALY 6 Send to the sin-bin for Australia’s penalty try, but scrum-work and defensive effort was noticeable before 44th minute substitution. NIALL SCANNELL 8 A big opportunity for the Munster hooker, who made the most of his chance. Lineout work excellent and proved he is a reliable back-up to captain Rory Best. TADHG FURLONG 8 A slow start but hugely influential once he got going. Try was deserved and he was a large part of Ireland’s improved scrum work. DEVIN TONER 7 Enjoying a strong end to the season and this was another big performance. Popped up all over the pitch and was a nuisance to Wallabies throughout. JAMES RYAN 8 Back to winning ways after first defeat as a pro last week. Brought bite and aggression, and work rate phenomenal in a high-tempo game. PETER O’MAHONY 9 Led by example. Some of his work at breakdown was excellent and provided some huge moments to help Ireland build momentum. DAN LEAVY 6 Not his most memorable evening, perhaps a result of injury he was carrying last week. Caught in two minds for early Wallaby try and hauled ashore at half-time. CJ STANDER 7 A solid outing. His role in this team is well established and was strong in the carry while also busy around the breakdown. JOE SCHMIDT 9 Got his selection correct and saw his team deliver an assured and controlled performance. REPLACEMENTS Jordan Larmour 7 (for Conway 15) - A livewire threat. John Cooney N/A (for Sexton 79) Jack McGrath 5 (for Healy 46) - Solid work but careless late penalty put Ireland under pressure. Rob Herring 6 (for Scannell 49) - Looked comfortable. Andrew Porter 6 (for Furlong 72) Joey Carbery N/A (for Toner 77) Tadhg Beirne 6 (for O’Mahony 65) Jordi Murphy 7 (for Leavy H/T) - Worked hard to close out game.
