Don’t ban booze
THE call by Ryanair for a ban on alcohol sales in airports before 10am can easily be implemented. All that’s required is for airports to apply the Licensing and Liquor Act 2000 and operate normalised pub hours with no special dispensation for travellers.
But why should civilised travellers be penalised for the over-indulgence and loutish behaviour of miscreants?
Calls to restrict opening hours in our airports is yet another example of our ‘blame anyone but ourselves’ attitude so deeply etched in our psyche.
To suggest that licensed outlets are responsible for the behaviour of individuals who voluntarily over-indulge in alcohol renders individual responsibility obsolete.
Are we ever going to mature to the point whereby we take responsibility for our own behaviour and stop blaming others? Tom Cooper, Templeogue, Dublin 6w.
