Áras election is looking likely
DESPITE delaying news of seeking a second term, hoping it would avoid an election, it’s hard to see how Michael D can avoid a contest. Senator Gerard Craughwell is determined to have one, but is struggling to get the Oireachtas signatures needed for his candidacy. Some Sinn Féiners would support Independent Senator Frances Black, and Mary Lou says she wants a contest but her support for President Higgins gives her an each-way bet. FG and FF welcomed the news and say they will save €1m on a campaign by backing Michael D.
