Cavanagh is writing a book... I’m not!

-

LAST week’s piece on Sean Cavanagh caused a bit of a stir. One of the things that was asked was why I came out with this now. The simple reason is that it felt right as it was topical in terms of what Cavanagh had said about Mickey Harte. Philip Jordan, Peter Canavan and Owen Mulligan all had their say and I drew on my own experiences with him and those freshest in my mind came from when An Ghaeltacht played Moy earlier this year.

In writing this column, I draw on personal experiences and I stand over everything that was written last week. I believe that honesty and integrity is at the heart of the GAA, whether that is on the field or in the dressing room. The whole thing grew legs as the week went on, with bits added and subtracted to what was actually in it.

I was accused of sour grapes. But if I was going down that route, there would be a lot of Armagh players and a lot of Dublin players that I could engage with.

Sean is writing a book, so maybe he is trying to come up with an angle. But that’s not my way.

What I am trying to do here is draw on my own personal experience to comment on current affairs in Gaelic Games.

I did that last week. By telling the truth!
