Gwynnie the Cannabis Queen

Star cashes in as California relaxes its marijuana laws

SHE has never been short of ‘useful’ advice for the modern woman, but this may be Gwyneth Paltrow’s pottiest move yet.

Her lifestyle empire Goop is set to capitalise on California’s newly relaxed cannabis laws by promoting a range of marijuana products which, according to its advocates, can promote wellbeing.

The wacky Goop brand, known for backing such bizarre therapies as vaginal steaming and coffee enemas, will soon provide vaporiser pens and cannabis tea bags, and even pot-based recipes, including how to make a Pimm’s-based ‘Cannabis Cup’ cocktail.

Ms Paltrow, 45, has admitted to smoking cannabis and is collaborating with marijuana superstore MedMen – described as ‘the Starbucks of weed’ – for the new venture.

A plethora of Gwynnie-approved products now feature on a Goop-branded wall in one of MedMen’s branches in California, where the drug was legalised in January.

The American chain, whose mission is to ‘mainstream marijuana’, was even the official sponsor of a $650-a-head ‘In Goop Health’ conference in Los Angeles this month.

The company ran panels on the purported benefits of cannabis and handed out gift bags full of ganja goodies to hundreds of guests.

Products to be sold in conjunction with Goop include $15 ‘patches’ containing CBD, a non-psychoactive

‘It’s described as the Starbucks of weed’

cannabis compound which some advocates believe could have medical benefits. Other products include weed bath bombs, cannabis-infused tea bags and luxury gluten-free cannabis chocolate bars.

The controversial website also champions the use of cannabis in treating pre-menstrual syndrome in women. It features an interview with psychiatrist Dr Julie Holland who credits the drug for alleviating the hormonal and emotional symptoms of the condition, including painful cramps, irritability, insomnia, depression, and anxiety.

Ms Paltrow appeared as a guest on The Howard Stern Show in the US last month and, when asked if she smoked cannabis, responded: ‘Sometimes.’

‘It’s legal now in California,’ she added.

Ms Paltrow joins a growing wave of celebrities cashing in on the new relaxed cannabis laws.

In 2016, actress Whoopi Goldberg started her company Whoopi & Maya, which sells medical marijuana products to relieve menstrual cramps. Virgin founder Richard Branson, who supports the legalisation of cannabis in his native UK, has invested in Sidecar, a US company that delivers products including medical marijuana.
