TODAY we reveal details of a political junket to Hong Kong and China that cost taxpayers over €27,000. It might have cost more except the hosts picked up the accommodation bill. This is part of a clever reciprocal arrangement where Ireland does the same for visiting dignitaries, allowing all to pretend the trip cost less than it actually did.
If only politicians were as clever and adept at doing the right thing as they are at devising ways to make sure they are not caught out, what a great little country we might actually live in.
