Smile

- Roddy Doyle

Just moved into a new apartment, and alone for the first time in years, Victor Forde goes every evening to Donnelly’s pub for a pint. The middle-aged Dubliner is haunted by the breakdown of his marriage, and a sense of failure. He is approached in the pub by a stranger who claims to remember him from school. The school was run by the Christian Brothers, and an unwelcome flood of memories lays bare a history of child abuse. A raw, powerful and compelling read by one of our master storytellers.
