Reid’s and Hewett’s moment in the sun

-

GORDON REID and Alfie Hewett won the wheelchair doubles for the third year in a row on a packed-out and partisan No3 Court.

Hewett, 20, from Norwich and 26-year-old Scot Reid beat Belgian-Swedish duo Joachim Gerard and Stefan Olsson 6-1, 6-4.

Reid, Paralympic gold medallist in Rio 2016, beating Hewett in the final, said: ‘We’ve been playing together about four years now. We have a strong bond on court. I think we make ourselves very hard to beat. Hopefully we can continue to improve.’

Wheelchair tennis will feature at the Invictus Games in Sydney in October and Reid is delighted.

‘We can’t thank the club and the tournament enough for the opportunity they give us to play on these stages,’ said Reid. ‘The Grand Slams are the best opportunity for us to showcase the sport.’
