Tommy Foy and a whole host of controversies
TOMMY FOY has been embroiled in a number of controversial issues at UL. He was central to nearly every thread of investigation by UL’s internal auditors. The audit showed that the university misled the C&AG, a host of State bodies, and RTÉ over unauthorised severance payments worth more than €1.2m.
Ex-president Prof. Don Barry and Tommy Foy provided inaccurate or incomplete information on numerous occasions. Both sought to mask the fact that UL offered substantial consultancy contracts to two employees at the same time as they received ‘excessive’ redundancy packages against departmental guidelines.
The audit strongly criticised Mr Foy in signing off on payment for his online doctorate for his own ‘personal development.’ UL spent €91,047 for three-year online doctorates for Mr Foy and his HR colleague Pat Rockett.
