Fleetwood praying for winds of change
TOMMY FLEETWOOD will be hoping for a windassisted repeat of his final round at the US Open to power him to a first British Open title.
Last month, at Shinnecock Hills, the 27year-old came close to claiming his first Major after a sensational 63 on the last day rocketed him up to second place behind winner Brooks Koepka.
The Englishman relishes playing in the wind and there is plenty forecast for today.
Trying to follow up Friday’s 65, he stumbled badly when he doublebogeyed the 12th. He followed that with three birdies to keep well in touch.
However, the 27-yearold is the course record holder at Carnoustie after carding a 63 in last year’s Dunhill Links Championship.
‘That’s the good thing, that I can draw on the fact that I have low rounds in me and success on this golf course,’ Fleetwood said.
‘I would love to have been a shot closer and that would feel a bit more in reach but you never know, it’s a major and the wind is supposed to pick up tomorrow and if you are there or thereabouts you’re never quite out of it.
‘I will need help from other people but at least on a scrappy day I have stayed in there.’
