Your drummer looks Berry familiar, Rick (well, it beats beating eggs!)

- By Peter Henn

THE skills of cookery doyenne Mary Berry are almost boundless. But even her most ardent fans were amazed at her latest show of wizardry: playing the drums at a music festival.

The 83-year-old shocked crowds at Camp Bestival on Friday night when she suddenly appeared on stage alongside 1980s pop legend Rick Astley, 52. The singer had ‘bumped into’ Mary earlier in the day at the event at Dorset’s Lulworth Castle and decided to invite her to join him.

After a brief few words with Astley – best known for his 1987 No1 hit Never Gonna Give You Up – she picked up the sticks and stepped behind a drum kit to beat out the rhythm to his song Beautiful Life.

Photographer Adam Hobbs said: ‘Mary came out at 10pm to the amazement of the crowd. She played a bit of drums as Rick sang one of his new numbers. She got the biggest cheer of the night.’

Organisers described it as one of the festival’s ‘odder moments’.
