SMOKES & DAGGERS

Inside the corridors of power...

-

ENDA KENNY has been keeping busy in his retirement. This week he was pictured at a charity polo event in Windsor alongside Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It certainly makes a change of scenery from where he was pictured earlier this month, outside of Dublin nightclub Copper Face Jacks… U2 FANS struggling to get affordable tickets to their upcoming 3Arena concerts would have got a slight kick out of a recent Fine Gael press release. Deputy Noel Rock, right, a long-time campaiger against touting, called for action. His headline for the release was: ‘Where the Touts Have No Shame’. GARDAí in Dublin were surprised to see a passenger in the back of a van they pulled over for having no insurance was of the fourlegged variety. ‘Stopped your Ford Transit, there’s a horse… INSIDE!’ Store Street Roads Policing Unit stopped the van for no insurance. It was also discovered there was quite a large horse being transported in the back! Driver arrested.’ SMOKES enjoyed comedian Frankie Boyle’s positive take on Brexit: ‘Boring to moan about the downside, let’s focus on the exciting possibilities: living in abandoned motorway services; coming up with a tasty recipe for fox; trading sexual favours for insulin and vice versa; none of it will be dull.’ A SQUABBLE is developing between OPW minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran and our barristers over the fate of the Four Courts bar. Although the bar looks like the set from Steptoe & Son, the barristers are very protective of a spot where an AG could be sipping G&Ts beside a crimelord. It is now threatened on health and safety grounds. A thousand-strong petition has been signed to save it. THE Taoiseach took to Twitter yesterday to share a photo of him with President Michael D Higgins in the Áras. He captioned the shot with: ‘Met the President again this morning for our regular Article 28 meeting. I always get good advice.’ But some were distracted by the framed picture of one of the President’s beloved Bernese mountain dogs on the bookshelf between the two politicians. Smokes has but one question for President Higgins and Leo: is it Bród or Shadow?
