Irish tourists warned of killer heatwave

IRISH tourists have been warned of extreme temperatur­es on the continent as a recordbrea­king heatwave hits Spain and Portugal.

This weekend, up to 422,000 holidaymak­ers will travel in and out of Dublin Airport, with Spain and Portugal our top destinatio­ns. However, temperatur­es in the Iberian Peninsula have reached up to 48C. Three people have already died in Spain from heatstroke.

On Friday, diplomats in the Irish Embassy in Madrid wrote on Twitter: ‘Spain is currently experienci­ng extremely high temperatur­es. Please be careful!’
