DIED 5 December 1791, Vienna, aged 35, from an unknown illness.

FAMILY The youngest of seven children – five of whom died in infancy – of Leopold and Anna Maria.

The ultimate child genius, he was also tactless, with an infantile sense of humour. Despite his success, Mozart died almost penniless. Rumours that rival composer Antonio Salieri murdered him out of jealousy seem to be just that – rumours.
