How winning the title has proved costly recently...
THE last six managers to have lifted the Premier League trophy all endured troubled follow-up seasons. Here’s how they fared:
2016-17 ANTONIO CONTE (CHELSEA) — SACKED
Slumped to fifth place in the league, future under discussion seemingly every week, though did sign off with the FA Cup.
2015-16 CLAUDIO RANIERI (LEICESTER) — SACKED
Fired 298 days after that fairy-tale triumph. Leicester would finish the season in 12th place.
2014-15 JOSE MOURINHO (CHELSEA) — SACKED
Could not even survive until the following Christmas with his team 16th in the table after nine defeats in 16.
2013-14 MANUEL PELLEGRINI (MAN CITY) — END OF CONTRACT
City finished second in 2014-15 and fourth a year later, when he was undermined by talk of Pep Guardiola’s arrival.
2012-13 SIR ALEX FERGUSON (MAN UNITED) — RESIGNED
Retired 28 days after winning his 13th Premier League title in his 27th season at Old Trafford.
2011-12 ROBERTO MANCINI (MAN CITY) — SACKED
Finished 11 points behind Manchester United and Mancini was given the boot two days after losing the FA Cup final to Wigan.
