...or a government minister

POOR old Shane Ross...is not a phrase you hear too often, but it is hard not to have a small amount of sympathy for the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport.

A few months ago the Dublin Rathdown TD was under fire in the Dáil and in all other places besides after signing off an a Sports Capital Grant for Wesley College of €150,000 for the resurfacing of a hockey pitch at the school – to be used also by the YMCA club and other local schools.

Now with the news that Ireland’s World Cup hockey heroes have had to dip into their own pockets to play for their country, Minister Ross has been criticised by the new hockey experts. Being attacked for funding not funding hockey at the same time is a special achievement.
