-

23nd min: Kerry trail by 0-8 to 0-5 after a good opening 23 minutes from Kildare but Kevin Flynn’s foul on David Moran yields a penalty for the hosts. David Clifford tucks that away and then kicks a lead point.

33rd min: Kildare respond strongly to that setback and an unanswered 1-4 has them six ahead but the goalscorer Neil Flynn is red-carded after being deemed to have struck Killian Young. 36th min: With Kerry having brought on Kevin McCarthy and James O’Donoghue (above) at half-time, McCarthy has an immediate impact as he dispossesses goalkeeper Mark Donnellan, allowing David Clifford an easy goal.

45th min: O’Donoghue dances through the Kildare defence for a third goal, putting seven ahead, a lead which wasn’t going to be overhauled. It was all in vain, however.
