SHANE Ross should take acting lessons on timing and delivery.

Because as Belfast comedian Frank Carson used to say, it’s the way you tell ’em that counts.

There he was, welcoming home the nearly triumphant Irish Hockey World Cup team and he decided to milk it for all it was worth.

He announced that HE was giving an extra €1.5million for Irish athletes attempting to make it to the next Olympics.

Immediately, some of the hockey players were overcome with emotion – tears of joy – thinking they were to get the entire amount.

Well… no! That money would go to ALL Olympic hopefuls and Ross, pictured above, couldn’t even say how much precisely that would come to. The tears quickly dried up. Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
