Sean Cavanagh started on the bench after falling victim to illness, while Daniel Goulding’s seventh-minute goal gave Cork a lead they would not lose. The Rebels were reduced to 14 men after 29 minutes when Alan O’Connor was sent off but Tyrone could not make any imprint on Munster men’s five-point interval advantage.

For 35 Mickey Harte’s team looked the more likely winners but a one-point lead was a miserly reward for their first-half dominance. However, the game’s tipping point came within four minutes of the restart when Alan Freeman converted from the penalty spot.

2015Tyrone : Kerry 0-18 Tyrone 1-11:

paid for a couple of missed goal chances, but the game was there for them when Peter Harte’s final-quarter penalty and Mark Bradley’s point left the game tied after 62 minutes. From there Kerry kicked four without reply.

2017Tyrone : Dublin 2-17 0-11:

After all the hype, it was over after four minutes when Niall Sludden’s stray pass was punished by Con O’Callaghan. After that Tyrone needed a Plan B, but they had left it at home.
