play four Leinster Championship matches in the space of 21 days yet any All-Ireland hurling final replay is slated for roughly three weeks after the final. Go figure.

Blame Pope Francic for this one, as Croke Park is out of bounds next weekend due to the papal visit. But in a week when Kilkenny legend Tommy Walsh sent out a dire warning about the future of the game at grassroots level – ‘if we don’t sort it out we will not have hurling in 10 years’ time, it’ll be just elite, we won’t have anything going on’ – one wonders how the club players of Limerick and Galway feel. No doubt prayers will be invoked this weekend as a replay would throw club championships into chaos.
