How we think teams will REALLY line out

- – PHILIP LANIGAN

THE listed teams are like a writer’s first draft – there to form a rough starting point before management flesh the tactical battle out via their creative imaginations. Jonathan Glynn for example wears 12 on his back but is Galway’s go-to man on the edge of the square. Conor Cooney is the preferred option to ride shotgun, giving Galway a distinct height advantage. That leaves Conor Whelan to roam and isolate the two inside in plenty of space with Cathal Mannion, Joe Canning and Joseph Cooney all expected to graft between the two 65s.

Throwing Canning inside would also give Limerick plenty to think about.

Johnny Coen and David Burke like to tuck in around Gearóid McInerney and pick up the turnovers and counter by spraying the ball to the attack.

Richie English has the extra inches on Seán Finn to match up with Cooney but his desire to attack the ball makes him a good match-up with Whelan either.

Limerick centre-back Declan Hannon is likely to sit deep to double up on the threat of Glynn while, Kyle Hayes’s role involves dropping from centreforward and clogging up the midfield channels.

Limerick will surely look to exploit Gearoid Hegarty’s height advantage on Aidan Harte, as Clare did in the drawn game with Peter Duggan.

Seamus Flanagan’s brief will also involve dragging Daithí Burke into open country and isolating Aaron Gillane inside to create a goal threat.
