LIFFEY BRIDGE DRAPED IN RAINBOW FLAG PROTEST

-

THE Ha’penny Bridge in Dublin was the scene of a short and colourful demonstration yesterday.

We Are Church Ireland, spearheaded by broadcaster Ursula Halligan, draped the bridge in rainbow flags and called for accountability on clerical abuse, the ordination of women and inclusion of LGBT Catholics.

They were joined by other campaigners and a group from Women’s Ordination Worldwide.

Colm Moore of We Are Church Ireland said they wanted to welcome the Pope but that the welcome included a big ‘but’.

A number of protests will take place today to coincide with the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park.

The Baby Shoes Remember protest is seeking an ‘end to systematic clerical child abuse’ and has asked those joining the protest at Dublin’s Pro Cathedral to bring a pair of baby’s shoes tied with black mourning ribbon.

Historian Catherine Corless, whose research was central to revealing the mass grave in Tuam, will be attending a vigil in Tuam that is being held at the same time as the Papal Mass.
