‘I know about the Magdalene laundries. I was a 10 year old in Liverpool working in the laundries. They always say, “If you worked with the Irish nuns, you’re a good cleaner.”

‘I listen to all that’s being said about the priests and nuns but they brought me up from when I was a baby in 1945 until I was 15, and I wouldn’t be the good person I am today without them. …Pope Francis is very important to me, because I like this Pope. I think he’s trying. I don’t think he gets all the messages from people calling for change… but I say, give him a chance.’
