A VERY FAMILIAR VOICE
IF you tuned into RTÉ’s coverage of the Papal visit may have recognised a familiar voice translating his speech at Dublin Castle and at Croke Park.
It was none other than Manuela Spinelli, the woman who spent five years on translation duties for Giovanni Trapattoni after the Italian native was appointed manager of the Republic of Ireland team in 2008. On a particularly high-stakes day, Manuela was caught out just once yesterday, when Pope Francis apparently ad-libbed a quick message to Children’s Minister Katherine Zappone.
