I’LL MEET MARGARET BUT WON’T SAY SORRY

-

HOUSING Minister Eoghan Murphy will contact Margaret Cash – but only after the Irish Mail on Sunday asked had he spoken to her yet. Mr Murphy’s spokesman replied ‘No’ when asked if the minister will apologise to mother-of-seven Ms Cash who shocked the nation with a picture she posted online of five of her children sleeping on hard plastic chairs in Tallaght Garda Station.

Mr Murphy was on holiday at the time and refused to return home.

It emerged that 16 children in all slept in Dublin Garda stations on the night of the picture. Dublin City Council says no families have slept in Garda stations since Ms Cash highlighted the issue.

On Friday the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive confirmed Ms Cash and her children moved into new accommodation after being forced to move from their emergency accommodation after a mix-up with the landlord who wanted it back.

Mr Murphy’s spokesman said it was not that the Minister ‘doesn’t want to’ get in touch with Ms Cash, but he ‘can’t get involved… until there is closure on the case which there should be very shortly. I would imagine he will speak to her in the coming days,’ he said.
