Five ways Tyrone can get to Dubs Marc Ó Sé

They have been written off even before a ball is kicked but Red Hand men must plan properly if they are to beat the champions

-

game-plans are, getting the right men on the right opponents is still one of the defining factors in all big games. there are a few critical match-ups which tyrone must get right, and perhaps the most critical is who picks up Ciaran Kilkenny.

there is a lot of speculation that it will fall to Pádraig Hampsey, but my pick would be Peter Harte because the latter’s threat is such that Kilkenny would have to keep tabs on him as well.

i would keep Hampsey on Bryan Fenton and the fact that he struggled on him last time out might give the former the edge to his game he will need.

the other key match-up is counteracting Jack McCaffrey’s blinding pace and i have been really impressed by the speed and aggression of Michael McKernan this year and he might just be the man for the job.

5. TEAM SELECTION

tyrone do not possess dublin’s depth so the best they can do is impersonate it.

there is no point in trying to keep the game tight to stay in it and then have nothing left for the sprint coming down the home straight.

in short, tyrone can’t afford to start their strongest team, they need to keep at least two strong impact subs, such as Kieran Mcgeary and Lee Brennan, to ensure that they can take their game to another level when it matters most.

it is a risk but then again they are playing for the ultimate reward.
