Second helpings for Meath at GPA dinner

-

THE bell will sound for Round Two next Saturday when the Meath All-Ireland winning football teams of 1987 and ’88 sits down in Croke Park for a dinner hosted by the GPA former players.

The double All-Ireland winning team managed by Sean Boylan were also the special guests of the Gaelic Players group last September (also on the eve of the All-Ireland football final) but nobody from the Royal County’s winning team turned up for either the free grub or vino.

Feelings were running high within the old team at how the GPA had rounded on one of their own – corner forward Colm O’Rourke, who has been a robust critic of the players body.

O’Rourke was referenced a couple of years ago as a ‘Meath f ***** ’ in a text message which it was alleged was unleashed from within the GPA.

O’Rourke (above) claimed he told the rest of the team they should go ahead and fill their bellies without him. But next Saturday O’Rourke is going and is bringing over 30 teammates and mentors for company. You wonder will that text come up...
