Outlook is good at TG4 as shower of fair weather girls blow in

THREE glamorous gaeilgeoirí have just been announced as the new team of weather presenters at TG4 – and at least two of them are a class act.

Earlier this year, the Irish language station launched a nationwide search for a new weather presenter and they received a tsunami of applications from all over the country.

But after blowing away the competition, the three new presenters, two them primary teachers, landed on cloud nine after securing the roles presenting daily weather bulletins as Gaeilge.

Primary school teacher Caitríona Ní Chualáin is joined by fellow teacher Orla Ní Fhinneadha and student Neasa Bheáid.

Caitríona told the MoS: ‘When I saw the ad I was really surprised because I suppose I always presumed they would have a host of presenters for those jobs.’ While she had no presenting experience, teaching classes full of children has acted as good training ground. ‘I am able to talk in front of large groups of people.’ While just a budding presenter and ‘very happy’ being a teacher Caitríona said she would love to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Daithí Ó Sé who also got his television break as a TG4 weatherman. Orla Ní Fhinneadha from Connemara has a degree and master’s in Education. She is a primary school teacher in Spiddal.

The third new appointment, Neasa Bheáid is a sociology student from Gaoth Dobhair. ‘The best thing about the weather are the seasons, each season brings its own beauty. And with Irish weather we can get all four seasons in one day!’ Neasa told the MoS.
