Adare named king of global castles
THE newly restored Adare Manor has already been named the world’s best hotel.
The prestigious design bible, Architectural Digest, has listed the 19th Century estate built iby the Earl of Dunraven among a list of the World’s Most Luxurious Castles You Can Sleep In.
The five-star property has won a string of awards since it opened last November after two years of painstaking work by 670 craftsman to restore it to its former glory. Owned by JP McManus, the manor was the first on the list of the ‘best castles to rest your head in while surrounded by opulence’ in the American publication which also refers to the storybook setting of the estate’s acres of manicured golf greens. ‘Located in the countryside village of Adare, Adare Manor is a 19th-century Gothic Revival castle hotel,’ it says. ‘Situated on 840 acres of land, each of the 104 guest rooms is decorated with 19th-century artwork and mahogany furniture.’
For relaxation, the publication advises guests to head to the castle’s state-of-the-art La Mer spa, practise dance moves in the grand ballroom, or dine at the Oak Room, Drawing Room, Tack Room or Carriage House. It is listed alongside the Castle of Ristonchi which was once used as a fortress to defend Florence in Italy.
The publication is a design authority which regularly gets superstars like Jennifer Anniston, Sharon Stone and Brad Pitt to open their doors and showcase their mansions on its glossy pages.
The Limerick facility won Hotel of the Year 2018 at the prestigious Virtuoso Awards just last month.
