Face up to a grim past
ON TONIGHT’S Who Do You Think You Are? singer Damien Dempsey visits the former industrial school in Letterfrack to learn about his grandfather’s incarceration there as a boy. Visibly moved, he makes a powerful plea for the exhumation of the bodies buried there.
This must be done, not just in Letterfrack, but in Tuam and in every other home where infants and teenagers died. The ghosts of our wretched, abusive past must receive justice. Only then can they, and we, sleep comfortably.
