BEE IN THE KNOW

-

Beekeeping has been around for 9,000 years.

A hive comprises 95% female workers and 5% male drones who do nothing but hang around in gangs waiting to fertilise a queen.

A queen bee produces up to 2,000 eggs a day and controls the hive by emitting complex pheromones ordering bee behaviour.

The Irish honey bee is almost black and has strong wings to withstand rain.

Bees don’t sting without good reason – they die when they do.
