‘TD used Leo visit to promote his own agenda’
A SURVIVOR of the Tuam Mother and Baby Home believes independent TD Seán Canney had his own agenda in play during the Taoiseach’s visit to the burial site.
PJ Haverty said Mr Canney was ‘feathering his own nest’ by using Leo Varadkar’s request to visit the Tuam baby grave as a chance to secure funding for local projects.
On the Tuesday following the visit, Mr Canney issued a press release revealing that the Taoiseach had confirmed to him that funding was available in the HSE budget to refurbish the Old Grove Hospital building, located minutes from the grave site.
Mr Haverty believes that Mr Canney raised the matter of the Old Grove Hospital as he sees it as a priority over the future of the Tuam grave.
The Irish Mail on Sunday requested a comment from Mr Canney, but none has been received.
