Vogue turns vigilante to take part in paedophile hunter sting

- By Lynne Kelleher

TV PRESENTER Vogue Williams has travelled to a sting which exposed a suspected paedophile for the latest show in her documentary series.

The broadcaster, 32, delves into the world of sexual predators targeting children online in the programme which examines trial by social media.

Vogue also talks to Tony McChrystal of social media crisis management consultancy Reputation Defender and Culture and Heritage Minister Josepha Madigan, who called for more to be done to curb net trolls after her husband and children received online death threats.

Vogue, who gave birth to her first child, a boy, Theodore, a fortnight ago, is filmed travelling in a car with a Dublin mother, who is part of a vigilante group. The Decoy Profiles pose as young children online to weed out potential predators who they then expose on live Facebook feeds.

The mother explains the man they are going to meet believes he’s been talking online to a 14-year-old child.

They pull up and she confronts him saying: ‘(The decoy) told you that she was 14 and then you said to her, ‘Do you want your first sex lesson next week?’”

As Vogue watched the live stream on her phone she comments: ‘This is crazy. There’s over 5,000 people watching this and there are thousands of comments.

‘This is about as dark as it gets. It looks like the guards are taking him away.’

Vogue: Trial By Social Media is at 9.30pm on September 26 on RTÉ2.
