Fergie returns to an Old Trafford standing ovation

-

ALEX Ferguson made an emotional return to Old Trafford yesterday to attend his first Manchester United match since he suffered a brain haemorrhage in May.

There was a standing ovation from fans in the packed stadium as the former manager, 76, took his seat (pictured). He had invited doctors who operated on him to join him at the game.

In an interview before United’s 1-1 draw with Wolves he said: ‘It’s great to go back to the stadium and it’s going to be quite emotional for me when the game starts. It had to happen some time and I’ve been looking forward to it.

‘It was important getting the right time and the right rest before coming to a game. ’

Sir Alex has said he will be unable to attend the Liam Miller tribute match at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Tuesday, citing medical reasons.
