Six out of six doesn’t mean a title — but it’s not a bad start

-

THAT’S six out of six for Liverpool, the third time in their history that they’ve started with six straight league wins. So what happened after their two previous perfect starts? 1978-79 — CHAMPIONS Bob Paisley’s Reds stopped at six, drawing their seventh game — at West Brom — 1-1. They wouldn’t lose a game until a 1-0 loss at Everton on October 28 and they would go on to win the title by eight points, a huge margin back in the day of two points for a win. 1990-91 — RUNNERS-UP Under Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool carried on to win their first eight matches and were unbeaten until December. They were still top when Dalglish sensationally resigned in February only for Arsenal to soar past them to glory.
