‘Brendan’s not jarred he suffered a stroke’

- By Lynne Kelleher

COMEDIAN Brendan Grace’s wife Eileen has said she worries that people might think her husband is drunk because his balance has been affected by a mini-stroke he has had.

She said: ‘I want to go and say: “No he’s not jarred, he had a mini-stroke and it did affect his balance somewhat.”’

A new RTÉ documentary follows veteran entertainer Brendan at home, and on the road in Ireland and in the United States as he visits family and friends.

It also touches on the diabetes which caused him to lose two toes 12 years ago.

He said: ‘I got diabetes, it was a bit of a blow to me. I lost two of my toes as a result of it. I actually make it funny but it is a very serious thing.

‘People say if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself from the beginning, but there is no better time to start than now.’

The documentary, called Brendan Grace, Funny Man will be shown on RTÉ One on Monday, October 8 at 9.35pm.
