THE SOLE OF A SHAWLIE...

The Everyman, Cork, presents Shawlies this week (Monday to Friday). It’s a celebration of the Cork Shawlies, among them Lena Baxter, Queen of Coal Quay, who kept the money she earned from her stall by stuffing it into her shoes. Her family, after her death, tell the stories of each shoe. The cast features the writer, Antoinette Hilliard, Michael Murphy and members of the Coal Quay Shawlies group.

The Full Monty (pictured), about redundant steelworkers who turn themselves into strippers, runs at the Gaiety this week (October 1-6) before travelling to INEC Killarney (October 813). The cast includes Gary Lucy from EastEnders.
