EXPERT VIEW

- Chris Foy FORMER PREMIER LEAGUE REFEREE

JOSE MOURINHO was fuming over a couple of decisions that led to West Ham goals at the London Stadium yesterday.

He said the first goal was offside when defender Pablo Zabaleta was put through to set up Anderson to score and, yes, he was — by about a foot.

We get to forensically study these decisions, put lines across the TV and paint a very different picture. The assistant gets one look and, if he has the slightest doubt, he gives the benefit of the attack to the forward.

The role of assistant referee is so hard and Stuart Burt, who kept his flag down, is one of the very best.

As for Mourinho’s belief that United striker Marcus Rashford was fouled in the build-up to West Ham’s third goal, forget it.

If we gave a foul for every coming together like that, we would be giving 60 fouls a game — the match would never get started.
