A par three halved... with triple bogeys!

-

THEY are four of the world’s best golfers, yet Sergio Garcia, Alex Noren, Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson looked like club hackers after halving the second — a par three — with sixes.

First Watson clipped his mid-iron tee shot into the water and Noren followed him into the drink.

Not to be outdone, Simpson, playing the Americans’ third shot from the drop zone because of a one-stroke penalty, also found the lake.

Garcia, also playing three from the drop zone, saw his chip from the drop zone limp on to the green before Watson, now playing five, did likewise. Simpson, probably presuming he was out of the hole, nonchalantly drained a 30-footer for his triple bogey, meaning the European duo had to get down in two to from the edge to win the hole.

Advantage Europe? Not a bit of it. Noren then fluffed his chip, Garcia ran his putt by and off the four of them wandered, red-faced, the hole halved in six.

Simpson’s caddy Paul Tesori walked off the green muttering: ‘I think these four might be looking for four new caddies

after that.’
