A FATHER of two was shot dead as he opened the door of his home in Ballymun on Friday night over what sources say may have been a ‘drug deal gone wrong’, the Irish Mail on Sunday has learned.

The 45-year-old, named locally as Robbie Sheridan, was known to gardai and had been warned in recent weeks that his life was under threat.

It is understood that in recent weeks his car had been set on fire and shots were fired through the window of his home.

Mr Sheridan was shot at his home in Poppintree Crescent, Ballymun after he was confronted by two armed men at around 11.15pm. The men, who wore balaclavas, fled on foot in the direction of Poppintree Park.

Superintendent Brian Daly appealed to anyone who was in the area between 10pm and 12 midnight on Friday to contact Ballymun Garda Station at 016664400 or the Garda confidential line, 1800-666111. He said it is unknown if the shooting is linked to a gangland feud.

Mr Sheridan’s body was removed to the city morgue for a postmortem examination.
