I blame parties for tedious race

-

DRAGON number three Peter Casey launched his Presidential campaign on Friday, complaining about the ‘uninspiring’ Michael D Higgins.

Mr Casey, left, who doesn’t seem to have a clue as to what being President actually entails and is equally oblivious to its constitutional restraints, has brought a rather quixotic element to the race.

Judging by the lack of interest in his Dublin walkabout on Friday, he seems to have about as much chance as being elected as he does of finding the golf ball he rather idiotically clubbed into the ocean during the week, drawing the wrath of environmentalists.

The fact that he is in the race at all can be blamed on Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil who decided not to run candidates and left the way open for councils across the land to bask in the limelight through using their nomination power.

There seems to be a view that the past seven years have been radical when it comes to Presidential politics. The fact that Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil couldn’t wait to support the incumbent gives the lie to that.
